What’s your workout inspiration? Today I walked over to 7th Avenue to catch a glimpse of the NYC 1/2 marathon. I meant to wake up in time to watch my clients run by, but I overslept. Within five minutes of watching the runners my eyes filled with tears. Endurance events always cause my emotions to stir. Not so sure why ’cause I’m definitely not a crier.

A Day in Boston Re-cap

Friday, I arrived in Boston around 12:30. The HLS cocktail party wasn’t until 7 p.m. giving me time to explore the city. The weather was perfect and I enjoyed a little alone time doing what one would expect of me. I hit up this store:

and stopped by Niketown:

and lastly this store:

I couldn’t help myself so, I brought these home:

Along the way, I found something that I often only see in my dreams. The Boston Marathon Finish Line.

That’s when it hit. I’ve thought about training to qualify for this race since I ran my first marathon 10 years ago. I really have to do this (or at least make an honest attempt). This year I’ve talked about it quite a bit. I’ve even began training, even though I haven’t signed up for a qualifying race. Its time to bite the bullet and sign up for a race. I can’t fear failure anymore. I have to put this goal out in the world and do my best at making my dream a reality.

I hope to be back on that Bolt Bus to Boston come April 2010, but this time carrying tons of running gear. There, I’ve said it out loud to the blogosphere and that makes it even scarier.

What goal have you set for yourself in the past but have been afraid to commit to? Maybe its time to make that dream a reality or to whisper it out loud for someone else to hear.

My morning started bright and early with a one-mile walk to catch the Bolt Bus to Boston. Since I won’t be working out today and I’ll be sitting on a bus for 4 hours, I’m happy to report that it is also a one-mile walk to the hotel from the bus depot. Thanks to directions from Hopstop, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I’ll be able to make it there without getting lost.

My biggest challenge with working out while traveling, is finding room in my bag for exercise gear. Its not that I try to take equipment with me, its just that when I’m packing light, a pair of sneakers takes up entirely too much room. Forget about it in the winter. I end up having to upgrade to the next sized bag due to all my running gear for varying different weather conditions.

Since this is just a weekend trip, I just decided to strategically plan my workouts for the week around all the traveling. May not seem important, but I really have a hard time working in long runs when I’m away from home. I love running in different places, but I’m directionally challenged. Which presents a problem. I mean who carries a map when they run?

Shhh…don’t tell anyone, but today I’ll be doing this yoga download in my hotel room despite the fact that I don’ have the necessary workout clothes. It requires nothing other than my computer, which makes it the most travel friendly workout ever! No sneakers required. No special “what if it rains” gear. No map or real planning necessary. I didn’t even pack workout clothes. No worries, I won’t be posting any photos. But perhaps I should have packed a sports bra.

What are your working gear packing secrets when traveling light?
