Say it, Do it! {It’s in the Bank}

The hard work is in the bank. When I start to doubt myself or think I haven’t done enough I focus on the quality workouts I’ve had so far.

  • tw0 18-milers
  • Philly 1/2 marathon
  • a 20-miler
  • a race pace 15 miler
  • a 22-mile run ran at almost goalĀ  pace

The weather was perfect for today’s 22-miler and it couldn’t have gone better. I broke some rules (wore new shoes and pants, as well as tried a new fueling option). Yet, I still managed to surprised myself.

I never know what to think going into the runs. I find that I’m pleasantly surprised by what I’m capable of. During the final three miles of today’s run I felt myself becoming emotional as we approached the return trip to Central Park.

Once again I ran with the New York Flyers. Our pace leaders was amazing. She took control and led us up the 59th street bridge at a strong pace. Without Lora, our pace leader and the New York Flyers today’s run wouldn’t have been possible.

In fact three weeks ago during our long run I complained about how much I disliked the long runs and declared this would be the last marathon I train for. While the verdict is still out as to when I’ll run my last, I now officially love long runs with friends!

Reaching a our taper never felt so good (with Lora)

My workout commitments for the week:

  • 1 speed workout (800 meter repeats)
  • 1 tempo run (7 miles total, 5 at tempo)
  • 1 13-miler @ MGP
  • 2 core workouts
  • maybe one spin
  • two sessions at Finish Line PT

What’s on your workout schedule this week?

Your 22 miler is SO impressive. Your pace! You’re such a strong runner and I’m really excited for you at NYCM. Long runs are definitely so much better with friends. I haven’t found any running buddies in Jersey City and it really gets tough. Enjoy your taper! I loved it. This week, I plan to do 3 Refine classes, one shorter run and one longer (8 miles) run.

Wow- great job! I attempted my 21 miler here on Saturday, but it was just miserably hot+sunny by the end, so I settled for 20. Just finished reading “A Race Like No other” about the NYC marathon to get me all pumped up for the race. Have you read it?
