Quick Check-in

Hi! I hope you all had an amazing Independence Day and that you don’t have to go back to work until Monday!

Posts may be a little less frequent in the upcoming weeks as I’m busy working on a new project, which I hope to share with you very soon!

I just wanted to check in with you quickly to update you on my Holiday SIDI and to see how your workouts are going this week. Saying my goals out loud really worked this time. I did all of them and although I was tempted to eat a pint of coconut ice cream while watching the fireworks on T.V. Wednesday night, I remembered my goals for the day.

My run was a nice tempo run and my first official training run for the marathon. Today, I completed my second run on the calendar and hope to acclimate to the heat asap!

Is it just me or is everyone complaining more about the heat more than usual? Admittedly, I’ve complained a little too. Today, I just complained that the sprinklers I saw turned on in Central Park were in fenced off locations. How mean, to make all us hot, sweaty runners run past them without even getting a sprinkle! ;)

My current strategy for putting one foot in front of the other is to imagine how hot it must be in Texas. Then I feel like a wimp and decide to gingerly continue on in the heat.

Tell me what your strategy is for running in the heat? Did you accomplish your SIDI goals for July 4th?

I struggled with running. I ended up walking 5 miles which was nice and did a few pushups but nothing crazy. I realized that it’s hard for me to workout without structure or beng in a group setting, I guess I got to focus on that information and making sure I book myself classes and whatnot.

Agreed! Too much complaining about the heat! BUT…it is very hot! haha Every summer I forget how hot it really gets. I live in Arizona and man, it’s been warm. 109 all last week. We finally got a little break yesterday, 99. Summers are hard…but good for training, right? :) I changed up my goals this week. Was running with a friend and just didn’t seem to be enough for me. I’m training for the St George marathon with high hopes of Boston. I understand it’s hard to get on the first try, BUT I can train hard and do all I can to do my best. Plus, I LOVE speed runs. So I found a new schedule and now doing this on my own! Love this running business!

We whine when it’s cold, when it’s warm, blah blah:)

Cannot wait to see what you’re up to — best of luck!

I started training this week also and it’s been brutal. Especially since I have done my runs in the late afternoon when the sun is at its brightest. Wish me luck for my first long run tomorrow!
