Grateful, Hopeful and Devoted
I get strangely anxious about races and long training runs. I know it’s normal to feel a bit of a flutter, but at times I can’t think straight or organize my race day plans because of all the anxious noise in my head. It’s actually why I didn’t write anything yesterday.
While at times I am fiercely focused and know exactly what I want, there are other times when I’m completely scattered. I’m hoping that through writing this, I’ll calm myself down and make a plan.
Runners are crazy. You know that, right? (just making sure)
Goals for Nashville:
#1) To run hard and without fear.
#2) To keep pushing when the going gets tough.
#3) To stay somewhat hydrated (it’s suppose to be H-O-T).
#4) To have fun
#5) To run with a grateful heart, a hopeful mind, and devoted legs.
And just like that writing out my goals gives me a feeling of centeredness and focus.
Do you write out your race day goals?

Absolutely love #5! Go show ‘em who’s boss!
Great goals. I love them all. Good luck!! I’ll be there. Running the mini though since I’m a beginner. Hoping this race will motivate me to train for a half!
#4 is the one of the most important things that we runners can overlook! It’s supposed to be FUN! You’ll do great. Good luck this weekend!
Love the goals. I find helping to write out my goals helps me a lot. Good luck this weekend!!
I love this: “to run with a grateful heart, hopeful mind and devoted legs.” SUCH a great way of getting your head into the game — it’s not purely about numbers, but about how that run feels come race day. That’s exactly how I go into my races too, and precisely what keeps me calm and centered leading into race day and race day itself. You’re gonna kill it.
I happen to randomly be in nashville this weekend. I am going to try and watch as much of the race as possible, so I will look out for you! good luck
