6-Week 10K Training Plan

2012 March 27

I think 10k races are the most challenging distances to run. It’s much harder than a 5k or 4-mile race and pacing can be challenging. It’s probably my least favorite race distance. Yet, I’m always up for a good challenge.

Below, I’ve given you a basic 10k training plan that’s perfect for someone with a low average weekly mileage, who wants to feel strong on race day. (click image to enlarge)

What race distance do you find the most challenging, besides the marathon?

Loved that episode of Big Bang Theory. Half marathons are the most challenging to me for scheduling the time and energy for long runs in the weekends.

Mind reader! I am thinking about a 10k coming up — I’ve bookmarked this. Whoop!

Love the clip and very timely as I’m gearing up for the Healthy Kidney 10K in May!

So funny that you put this video of Penny and Sheldon up here. The other day I wrote a post about watching that show on the treadmill and wondered what Sheldon would look like running… here’s my answer!

I’ve actually never run a 10K before. I did a 5 miler a couple of years ago and I loved it, but I definitely see what you mean about pacing. I’d love to do one this spring, do you know of any good ones happening in NYC?

Yes! There’s the Mini 10k in June.

The shorter races always get me bc they’re faster. I prefer a slow steady, longer race.

Same here :) I start getting faster after the 3rd K or so, so a 10K is muche easier than a 5K for me!

I’ve been tossing around the idea of a 10K…that training plan looks pretty painless. It may work out even for a lazy runner like myself. Thanks for posting it!
