Working Out with Harley Pasternak and New Balance

Is it weird for me to say that I’ve never really given much thought to having a personal trainer of my own?
That all changed last week when I got the opportunity to workout with celebrity trainer, Harley Pasternak. The workout was a way to introduce the New Balance 5 Factor997. Which was a collaboration between New Balance and Harley.

Harley put us through a circuit style workout. For the workout, we moved around from station to station doing as we were told by Harley. I was told I was cheating on my tricep dips (and in my defense I didn’t mean to!). There were three stations and three rounds of workouts at each station.
The Exercises:
- 40 Reverse Flys (body weight)
- 50 Curtsey Lunges
- 50 Super slow crunches
- 40 tricep dips, 10 second break, 30 tricep dips
- 50 Jump Squats
- 30 Alternating Oblique Crunches
- 50 Reverse Flys, 30 Tricep dips
- Walking lunges the length of a large room, sprint to where we started
- 1 minute plank
After the workout, I decided that Harley needs to be my personal trainer.

The New Balance 5 Factor997 is best for Boot Camp style workouts. It’s a light-weight shoe that keeps your foot close to the ground allowing for quick cutting movements and agility drills. The limited edition shoe is currently available in NYC at the New Balance store and will also be available online.
The shoe is soft, cushy and light without all the bulk of some other sneakers. Also, it has a pretty low heel to forefoot drop, but doesn’t feel like a minimal shoe either. I wore these shoes for four days straight after the workout. So, I guess you can say I really like them!
Have you ever had a personal trainer? If no, do you ever wish you had one? Do you cheat on tricep dips?
{Disclosure: I was not compensated for this post. I received a complimentary pair of the New Balance 5 Factor997. All opinions expressed are my own}

Sounds like a tough workout! How fun though- working out with Harley!
I assume the shoes are more for indoor work rather than outdoor running?
That must have been so fun to work out with Harley. Your comment about cheating on tricep dips makes me wonder if I do that too. I’ll have to check in my next Physique 57 class!
The good news is that the way I was cheating isn’t possible the way you do them at Physique.
I have had various personal trainers throughout the years and none of them have really worked for me. The last one told me I would lose weight if I didn’t eat carrots for my snack, and instead recommended some crazy protein pudding. I dropped her like a bad habit. I mean really.
I probably cheat on tricep dips but I don’ t mean to! They are hard and it’s easy to fall out of proper form.
nice food recommendations… makes all of us in the fitness industry look good
Jeallllous! First off, what a thrill to meet and then workout with Harley! Those shoes looks amazing. I love my NB minimus.
I wish I could afford a good personal trainer but my hubs is mine, so it kind of works itself out. No pun intended:)
So. Jealous. Why don’t I get free shoes? WHHHYYYYY? Sounds awesome. I have had PTs in the past. They were meh. This guy would be different, I am sure.
LOVE those shoes!
How lucky were you to work out with him!!! One tough workout!!!! I want him or Bob for Biggest Loser to be my trainer!
Do you have any recommendations on shoes for strength training? I am just getting into it and I know I shouldn’t be wearing my regular running shoes. I’d like something that I can run short distances in and then use for a training session.
These shoes would be perfect!
