NYC Thanksgiving Workout Picks

2011 November 21
by Jess

Working out when you’re out of shape isn’t fun. Don’t get me wrong I love every huff and puff and consider myself blessed to be able to workout. That race yesterday was fun… but it was equally not fun. Mile four of the race might have been the hardest mile I’ve ran this year.

My cardiovascular capacity is so bad right now that if I run to catch the train, it takes five minutes for my heart rate to return to normal. Twenty minutes after yesterday’s race, my lungs were still burning.

If I didn’t have family in town this week, I’d schedule a dream day or two of workouts. Check out these amazing Thanksgiving workouts:

  • Lululemon’s First Annual Turkey Trot 5k (Free and open to the public): Wednesday, November 23rd at 6:00p.m. in Central Park
  • Soul-Cycle’s annual Turkey Burn (90 minute class): Check the Soul-Cycle website for class details. There are 25 Turkey Burn classes on the schedule and 7 locations to choose from.
  • Physique 57 is open and has 22 classes on their schedule for Tofurky day. Check out the schedule here.

I’m trying to scam a way to get to at least one of these things this week, but so far Rick isn’t agreeing to any of my plots.

Tell me: What are your Thanksgiving Day workout plans?

Refine on Thursday morning! I can’t pass up my opportunity at my first Brynn class in forever! I am really, really scared though. I know what you mean about being out of shape. This class will hurt — physically and emotionally.

Haven’t been able to find that particular t-shirt in this photo – do you know how I could get one? Thanks!

      Sadly, I don’t. It’s my favorite long-sleeved t-shirt and I got as a gift last December.

I was planning on doing an easy weights workout on Thursday morning, but now I’m wondering if I’m crazy enough to do one of those Turkey Burns!!

I’ll be running a Turkey Trot 5k in the morning (still debating whether I’m going to don a turkey costume or not… I wannnnt to), then heading to my mom and dad’s for appetizers and the meal, then off to my in-laws’ house for dessert. Good thing they live close to each other!

I’m running my first Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving! It’s a 4 miler and is about a mile and half away from my house so it should be a pretty decent run overall!

Every year I run the Manchester Road Race, a 4.5 miler, on Thanksgiving morning. People dress up and bands play along the course. It’s fun!

Love that shirt. It sounds like you had a hard run, but those are the most rewarding:)

I would love a gobble jog, you feel like you’ve earned your dinner!

Hopefully Refine with Dori! I am on the waitlist…but I was like third, so I am banking on getting in. Otherwise, just a run – aim for 6mi.

I too will be at Refine with Cameo (hopefully!) and Dori.

I hear you. I’m doing the PPTC Turkey Trot on Th am and not looking forward to it. I ran 3 very slow miles on Sunday and felt like crap (both physically and the mentally that 3 miles did me in). I’ll be out there on Th am attempting to put my “have fun while I run” mantra to work.

    Happy T Day!

I looked into Soul Cycle…$64 for one class? I’m insulted. That’s just silly…and elitist.
