Class Review: Vinyasa Yoga @ Equinox Tribeca {instructor Mariko Hirakawa}

Class: Vinyasa Yoga
Class Location: Tribeca Equinox
Instructor: Mariko Hirakawa
Class Description: This 1 hour and 15 minute vinyasa yoga class ended up being a 90 minute class which was unlike any vinyasa class I’ve ever taken. It started with a relaxing floor based stretch session and some restful meditation before moving into 75 minutes of sun salutations, twists, and deep hip opening exercises. The class was definitely an intermediate level that was more vigorous and flowing than the average Equinox vinyasa class.

Favorite things about the class:

  1. The instructor gave very clear cues regarding position, which muscles should be engaged, and flow. She adjusted everyone during the class even though the class was packed!
  2. Her music was calming and matched the flow perfectly without being too “yoga like.”
  3. The movements focused around hip openers and deep twists which left me feeling detoxed and relaxed, even after a 24 mile marathon training week.

Least favorite things about the class:

  1. She only teaches 3 yoga classes per week at Equinox which means it’s tough to find a class that works with my schedule.
  2. The class was actually 90 minutes versus the advertised 75 minutes. This didn’t bother me since I had no plans but could be annoying to someone in a hurry.
  3. Only for Equinox members unless they are on the guest list ahead of time.

    Thanks for featuring and sharing! Just as an FYI, the link to Ashley D doesn’t work. It’s a double embedded link. :)
