Soundtrack of My Workout: My Legs Feel Like Lead
2011 March 21
Something you never hear group class instructors talking about is how teaching classes effects their personal workouts. Yes, there are classes like yoga and boot camp where the instructor doesn’t have to “do the workout” with the class. But what about classes like spinning?
My gut response is the instructor is there to make sure you get a good workout, not to get a workout.
And yet there are so many times that my legs are screaming “Do not get on that bike” and I ignore them. Being on the bike changes the class. Being on the bike gets complicated when my legs need a break.
Maybe I should become a yoga instructor.

I love teaching boot camp. I never do the full workout and I am sore even when I do 1/2. Imagine how good my class feels! hehehe!
ha ha! The worst is when I only do the exercises on one side of my body during class. lol
On the Floor, Til the World Ends, and Hello are all on my playlist too.
Forget You by Cee Lo Green is an awesome running song too. And Born This Way by Gaga!
YES Black & Gold! Another great one is Beggin’ by Madcon.
When you teach, do you consider that your workout?
Yes. Which is the hard part when I really need something else to be my workout that day.
If I ever was going to be an exercise instructor I would definitely do spinning because then I could get a work out in.. sure I’d be there for the participants but I feel like you can really do both when it comes to spinning.
OMG!! Amen and thank you for sharing these songs!! I’m adding all of them now! WOO!! And you’ve inspired me to go for a SPINNING CLASS this year. I will do it!!!
I suspected you might be human.
nice to know instructors are humans too
Do you consider teaching online? I teach online and actually I do my workout and people follow me online, although don’t know how this fits spinning.
I bet your classes rock! Pun intended.
I’m always impressed with instructors ability to workout over and over in one day. I’m also jealous they get paid for it!
I’ve been told that my classes that I teach off the bike are harder than when I’m on. It’s most likely because I don’t get tired, so I’ll just keep pushing them! It was hard to get used to at first, but now I teach at a studio where I am off the bike for probaby 35-40 minutes, so I’m used to it now!
