A Return of a Classic: Spinning @ Equinox with Jamie Morales
Indoor cycling has taken on several forms in the past 5 years.
- Bikes that have torque boards at Flywheel Sports

- Dancing on bikes at Soul-Cycle

- Hover Ride at Crunch Gym.
As fun as these classes are, I can’t help but ask: Does the classic indoor cycling class still exist?
Rewind back to Cycle for Survival: Glee’s version of Don’t Stop Believin’ is blasting from the speakers. Alison is peddeling her heart out. And an energetic instructor, Jaime Morales, is running around the room encouraging participants to give just a little bit more and a little bit more. I became a little envious of Alison. I wanted to be rockin out and spinning up a sweat with this instructor.

Knowing I had to take Jaime’s class, I asked (begged) to take one of his classes at Equinox.
The class was a classic. At 12:30 on a Tuesday afternoon at the Greenwich Avenue Equinox the spin room was packed and the music was pumping. The class was everything I anticipated it to be. No invented moves on the bike, no fancy equipment just straight forward intervals that asked even the most exhausted rider to give their all.
The class flew by and yet I don’t think I’ve worked harder on the bike in months. The energy of the room under the guidance of Jaime, embodies everything I first loved about indoor cycling. The classic cycling class is alive and well.
Be sure to check out Jaime’s classes at the Greenwich Avenue Equinox:
