Ashatanga, Bikram, Hatha, Iyengar, Jivamukti, Kundalini and now BuddhaX.

BuddhaX is the latest interpretation of yoga to hit the yoga scene. Yesterday at Pure Yoga, yogis gathered to get the first taste of BuddhaXtreme.

BudhaX Class Description:

“BuddhaXtreme is an experimental movement that fuses breakdance and power vinyasa yoga to create breakflow: a unique series of integrated dance moves and yoga poses that take both to the next level.

Hipper, more intimate, and more affordable than yoga expos and conferences, BuddhaX introduces first-timers and advanced yogis alike to explore physical movements infused with music and dance.”

Yoga and breakdancing??? At first I thought it would be like a hip-hop yoga class I once observed. Where the mash-up of activities felt forced. This class wasn’t at all like hip-hop yoga. In fact the instructors make yoga and break dancing fit together like chocolate and peanut butter.

It was easy to see how yoga asanas and break dancing moves are surprisingly similar.

Doesn’t that move look like a funky combination of plow and shoulder stand?

What’s the most interesting mash-up class you’ve tried/heard of?

*I did not take this workshop, I only stopped by to get a sneak peak.

** Don’t forget about the Better Butter discount!

Very interesting, who would have thought Yoga & Breakdancing go together!

Sounds…. interesting. Probably not my thing though! I haven’t really tried many mashups aside from Core Fusion Yoga, which is a very nice blend.

very interesting! i totally wanna go to one of these workshops. i mean, i’m all about the simplicity of the a basic vinyasa yoga and all but i love the idea of mixing things up with other practices every once in awhile too. very cool that you got to sneak in and watch!

Hey! I was at that workshop as well – I guess we didn’t see/recognize each other! It was a pretty neat class though!
