A Healthier Frozen Meal

Vegan Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins are not the only reason I’m looking forward to fall.

I’m also looking forward to getting back into the kitchen. No central AC = sweaty shins in the kitchen. I enjoy sweating on a daily basis, but just not in my kitchen.

Unfortunately, this means I’ve been eating a lot more processed/ frozen foods this summer. I recently came across Lightlife frozen entrees.

Ingredients for Zesty Mexican Entree: Cooked whole grain brown rice, fire roasted peppers, corn, black beans, pinto beans, tomatoes

The meals come with a separate sauce packet which allows me to decide how much sauce to add to the meal.

Check out the nutrition stats for the Zesty Mexican Entree:

For a frozen meal the stats are good and so is the price when compared to take out. One of these meals paired with a side salad or another vegetable is great option for when it’s too hot to cook or when I’m short on time.

What’s your favorite “healthy” frozen meal or do you avoid frozen meals?

Huh, I have not seen those. I usually don’t get frozen meals. Every once in a while I’ll see something new like that and try it just for fun.

    nice!

I LOVE Birds Eye frozen green beans. I mix them into pasta dishes all the time. sometimes they taste fresher and healthier than if I can non-frozen. go figure. I also love Boca Burgers (Spicy Black Bean!)

I haven’t had a frozen meal in a really long time, so I can’t say. When I do have frozen food, its usually veggie burgers or frozen tortellini. These look like great options in a pinch!

I wish I could say that I don’t reach for frozen meals, but I do. Totally out of a convenience factor, but also because a lot of the times I’m short on time and doesn’t have time to cook some of the things I pick up in the frozen variety. Kashi has some really good frozen meals!

Did you say “frozen meal?” Because all I heard was “Vegan Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins.” Those sound great.

I usually don’t eat frozen meals because of how bad the nutrition stats are, but I’m seriously impressed by that label.

If I go frozen, I go Morning Star.

I like Amy’s frozen pizzas, if that counts as healthy : )

I’ve been a lurker on your site for a while and figured now was as good of a time as any to comment.

I discovered Garden Lites souffles, and was pretty impressed with them as far as frozen foods go. They’re not necessarily significant enough for an entire meal, but they’re a great addition.

    I mentioned them here http://fittalker.blogspot.com/2010/08/food-find.html

    Love the blog, thanks!

Thank you! So glad you commented!

I’ve seen those in the store, but haven’t tired them yet. Maybe the next time they are on sale, I’ll pick them up.

I really like Amy’s frozen dinners. Morning Star also has a new line out that is awesome!

I like the ease of frozen meals, but I avoid them…especially here in Korea, as I have no idea what’s in the ingredients. My Korean reading capability can only take me so far and reading an ingredient list in English can be tough enough, let alone in a different language!

I tend to avoid frozen meals. They aren’t common in Japan and I grew up on freshly cooked food everyday. I generally prefer to keep extra food in my fridge that can be eaten when I don’t have much time.

“I enjoy sweating on a daily basis, but just not in my kitchen.” – I so understand where you are coming from. After the hottest summer in Japan in over 100 years (officially announced yesterday) and being really pregnant at the same time, I have actually come to feel quite comfortable sweating. It feels refreshing somehow.

I do try to avoid frozen meals…but I like to have an Amy’s meal on hand for those nights when something unforeseen happens, and I just need something quick and tasty! Thanks for sharing about these – it’s nice to have another option!

No central AC? I don’t blame you. I normally don’t buy frozen meals b.c of the preservatives and they don’t fill me up but occasionally ill see one on sale with decent stats that ill try.

No AC here iether but I don’t do frozen meals.. just can’t do it.. they don’t satisfy me… but that is just me…

These look pretty good. I don’t like to make frozen meals a habit, but if I have one it’s always an Amy’s organic or a WW veggie primavera.
