neat video! i’ve done yoga on the beach in puerto rico.
definitely unique, but probably not the most zen-like: a handicapped bathroom stall at the office… long stressful day!
I love doing yoga in exciting places! I do it in the park all the time (strangers always say really nice things to me while doing it too!) and have done it on the beach, in the backyard, all over the house and apartment, etc. Nothing too crazy, but maybe one day.
ive done yoga on my friends roof garden
What a great concept! A reminder that you can get a good workout, yoga or otherwise, no matter where you go. I’d have to say the strangest place I’ve done yoga improv is in the kitchen. (Shocking, I know!)
on my way to HLS, when my 20 minute delay became an hour delay, then two hours, then four hours, RIGHT BEFORE it was announced that we would indeed be extending the delay to 5+ hours, I did 20 minutes of yoga, in between two rows of chairs, with a few dozen people watching.
I invited others to join, but no one did.
all over yoga, for the win.
For me it was at the airport. We were on the way to my Gran’s funeral and my mum and I were full of nervous energy and sadness. We found a quiet corner of the departures area and did a few poses in hopes of finding some peace and solitude. It worked well to calm us down and helped us get through the 7 hours flight.
The most unique place that I’ve ever done yoga is on a ship in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. I’m a marine navigator and yoga helps me sleep better and have more energy when I’m doing shift work for weeks on end.
This Saturday I’m doing yoga all day on the rooftop of a condo building to raise money for a breast thermography machine
I’ve done yoga at a music festival in Connecticut! Some girls did it in the bathroom at school but I didn’t join in on these sessions haha.
You’re in NY, people won’t stare at anyone doing things crazy, in Atlanta I’d look like a nut, haa.
I will say that I have posed at an airport terminal bc I was with some friends and we were bored to tears in a flight delay. Now Boarding all downward dogs.
I struck a yoga pose on in the Alps by Innsbruck – photo proof – http://gettingbydreamingbig.com/2010/08/10/tuesday-travels-innsbruck-austria/! So cool that she’s doing yoga in NYC – I’ll have to check it out regardless of if I win.
Last weekend I had a nerve wracking 14 hour car ride from Maine to Pennsylvania. Travel conditions were awful, so when I hit the Mass turnpike I pulled over for fresh coffee. Under the roof of the rest area I found it easy to slide into poses to calm myself, stretch my sore muscles and prepare for the rest of my trip!
For a blog wide yoga challenge I did the Happy Baby Pose on the roof of my house. http://www.runtrackmind.com/?tag=yoga-pose-may.
I did Yoga by the Pyramids in Egypt
I’ve done yoga in lots of different places: in the airport waiting for flight to leave, on the beach in Jamaica & Mexico, at the back of a room while a speaker was speaking at a conference I was at (my back was getting tired of sitting), and on top of a mountain that we hiked up. Yoga is a great pick me up just about anywhere!
I’ve done Warrior II and mountain pose on the back porch of my office building.
Yoga in the home in which 3 generations of women in my family were raised in a small mountain village in Calabria, Italy.
I have practiced yoga on a barge in France on the Canal du Midi in between stowed bicycles.
And I have done yoga at LAX, a nice headstand to get a new perspective on a delayed flight.
(a bonus celebrity yoga in public sighting… Anthony Keidis doing Yoga in mid flight a few years ago. He was downward dogging his way to cobra and back mid flight from LAX to Miami !)
I did yoga in Maui in Hawaii on my honeymoon. It’s not unique but it felt wonderful to do yoga in a park in Dublin, Ireland, overlooking the bay.

I have practiced Yoga on the pier at Redondo Beach, CA
In costa rica with on a beach, enjoying the positive energy and taking a moment in with my fellow pro snowboarders that beauty is everywhere. To be alive is to live
When I was a flight attendant on a 12 hour flight from Cairo to Jakarta, I struck chair pose in the lavatory.
I have struck a yoga pose on the peak if a mountain in Jasper National Park in Alberta, Canada.
Very cool! I did a headstand in my office pod, just to see what would happen. Answer? Nothing.
Love it!
I’m new to yoga, so the only unusual place I’ve struck a pose is: Tree Pose at the grocery store. It was a long line and I was feeling anxious — and the conveniently placed candy bars were calling to me. I made it through with a smile and no candy bars, win.
I love the yoga anywhere movement. Too bad DCers wouldn’t really get it. I pop into a tree pose whenever I’m thinking. The “thinking man” has nothing on me.
Can’t say I have a very unique place…ummm…a beach in South Korea…maybe that counts?
Thalians. Psych ward at cedars sinai. You are not allowed to do a head stand, or any out of the ordinary physical movements for that matter, so I had to make sure the coast was clear to get a couple minutes upside-down each day. Dedication, right? !
At the base of the Black Canyon in southern Colorado!
I love Warrior One! I never used to be good at it, but then I discovered there are ways to modify it. Yoga guru Leeann Carey has a free yoga video that shows how to break it down. I thought you would be interested in it: http://planetyoga.com/yoga-blogs/index.php/free-yoga-video-hands-on-adjustments-in-warrior-one-pose/
