Uncle Sam Cereal Giveaway

2010 July 29
by Jess

Last week I received a box of Uncle Sam cereal to sample and review.

I have a Registered Dietician friend who is often seen eating this cereal. So I was excited to try it out. Check out that nutrition label. It’s pretty impressive.

The ingredient list isn’t too shabby either. Most cereals have a huge list of ingredients, which is why I normally steer away from eating them.

This cereal is unsweetened making it the perfect cereal to pair with a sweet fruit. I try to have a fruit serving at breakfast and this cereal makes it easy to add one in without feeling like I’ve had too much sugar (I add sugar to my coffee, so I try to avoid any other sugar).

It’s also great for incorporating into other recipes. Although I’m not baking until summer is over, I did check out the recipes on the website. These Chunky Monkey muffins sound delish!

Want a free breakfast? U.S. Mills will send one lucky reader their very own box of cereal. To enter the giveaway tell me what you would bake using Uncle Sam cereal. You have until Saturday, August 31st to enter.

As soon as the thermostat in my kitchen drops below 80 degrees, I’ll start baking again.

*Disclaimer: I don’t really have a thermostat in my kitchen, but my knees sweat it’s so hot in there.

Being a lazy college student who doesn’t feel like baking, I would probably mix it into fruit & yogurt!

I rarely eat cereal by the bowl, but I love adding it to my yogurt and fruit for some crunch. This would be perfect for that! Their website also has a chocolate chip peanut butter cookie recipe…chocolate + peanut butter…I’m in! I’d also try this as a coating for baked chicken or tofu.

The ingredients list is impressive, too! It’s not loaded down with stuff I don’t recognize.

I’d probably eat the whole box before I was able to bake anything, but I’m with you, the muffins sound perfect.

I’m not sure if this counts, but I would just eat it plain with milk. I love cereal and milk, and I especially love that Uncle Sam’s doesn’t have a ton of unpronounceable ingredients. I’ve heard it tastes really good, too.

Hmm I’ve never thought about using cereal to bake, but if I start it would definitely be some bran-type muffin. Thanks for hosting the giveaway!

I think I’d make crunchy butterscotch blondies :)

  14. July 30, 2010

I would mix it in with Yogurt, eat as is, or make peanut butter balls! :)

I read about this on another blog too & wanted to try it! I would use it alone for a snack, maybe blend it to a powder & coat my chicken breasts or add intp my turkey meatloaf, maybe add into my Greek yogurt OR maybe try to incorporate it into my homemade protein bars or cookies….

I heard it was really yummy too!

I agree, I’d probably eat it before I could bake with it…but I’d try for some kind of breakfast bar.

I had to think a moment on this one and then it came to me – I would “bake” Uncle Sam Krispie Treats! I used to love Rice Krispie Treats a child and these may make a healthier version. Perhaps I’d use Earth Balance butter and organic marshmallows and pure vanilla extract.

I like the Breakfast Cookies. Anything that brings dessert to multiple meals gets an A+ in my book.

  19. July 31, 2010

I’d love to try this healthy breakfast option!! It would also be great in bars or trail mix!
