Run Groovy

2010 July 24
by Jess

Today is prime example of why I have endless amounts of laundry to do.

Around 6:30 a.m. I went for a 3 mile run (walked an additional mile) for a total of 4 miles (outfit #1). Walked home, showered, and changed into clean workout clothes to teach boot camp (outfit #2). After boot camp class I headed back home, changed into clean running clothes to run 2 miles with the Husband (outfit #3). Once again I showered and put on a summer dress (outfit #4).

Good thing I have a solution to keeping my workout clothes from stinking. If you’ve ever noticed your “clean” workout clothes still have a faint odor try this method. I swear by it. It helps me from having to replace older workout clothes.

Speaking of running clothes. Have I told you about my new favorite shorts? I use to swear by Nike Tempo shorts. Now I wish that each pair would magically transform into a pair of Lululemon Run Groovy Shorts.

Here’s what I love about these shorts:

  • Back Pocket: Other shorts have strange front pocket that I don’t find very useful.
  • Built in Underwear: It fits and feels like real underwear. The underwear in the nike shorts feels like tissue or something weird.
  • Waistband Design: It sits nicely on the hips. The wide band is comfortable and flattering.
  • No Chafing: The seams have yet to chafe my inner thighs.

In fact I love them so much I bought 3 pairs.

What’s the biggest feature you look for when purchasing running or workout shorts?

I own three pairs of those shorts, too. I refuse to run in anything else. They’re that good. My requirements – back pocket, built-in underwear, no riding up. I always feel like the Nike shorts bunch up in weird ways. I justify wearing expensive shorts by wearing the Champion sports bras from Target – my personal favorite.

That is how I feel about my Lululemon Run: Speed Shorts! I think they are very similar to the Groovy just a little shorter. I can never run in anything else again!

Oooh I might have to try these – I like my Nike Tempo’s (don’t LOVE them though because I still CHAFE in them). I need a solution for the chafing – maybe these are it!!

You were a workout machine today. I’ve yet to try Lululemon shorts, but the fit looks nice. I’m used to Nike ones, but definitely need to add more to my rotation.

I love the shorts! I think my thighs are too big to wear those though. I usually wear Nike spandex for runs. Stinky running clothes are inevitable. I use the febreze spray right when I take them off, but after so many uses they just have to be thrown away :)

Ooh! I’ll have to try them out. I do like how the Nike Tempos look, but what you mentioned about them is annoying–especially the chafing! I sometimes put a credit card in the weird front pocket and I definitely have credit card bruises from the pocket’s placement. (I’m classy like that.)

Those shorts are so so cute! I am sad to say I have nothing from lululemon, but I do plan on making a purchase in the near future. I also have to try your washing method, I do feel like sometimes my workout clothes don’t get clean enough.

I wear pearl’s infinity splits. I seriously have thrown away everything else and own these in 6 colors. I need shorts with a split, a comfy liner, and a pocket.

Those shorts do look super cute and comfortable…though I can’t justify a purchase at Lulu…way to expensive for my wallet :(

I guess I’m still not a hard core exerciser, because I still wear the same workout clothes I wore in college! Now granted, that wasn’t TOO long ago, but still…I love them. I don’t have any problems with smells or chaffing, maybe because I’m not a runner? Who knows, but I’m sure I’ll have to do some workout clothes shopping eventually, so I appreciate the advise! It also helps having a job, so I can actually DO some shopping!

Oh, you have the same laundry problems I do! :-P When I was mainly working out in an air conditioned gym, I could get away with wearing my workout wear a couple of times between washes. Well not now that I’m running in the summer heat, ick! The shorts look great, I may need to look into. I look for good fit and pockets, I can’t have running shorts that are too loose.

I am obsessed with the Run Speed Shorts, they are the most comfortable ever! I think I may have to try the Groovy though because they are a little bit longer, and at 5’8 I’ve got some long legs on me!

Those are soooooooooooooo cute! Wish I could afford Lululemon! I look for wicking material, fit & how they move – try this a bit before I buy, for running, I like the split on the side of the short that goes further up though, comfort, of course!

  14. July 25, 2010

Those are some super cute shorts! I like having a liner, and a split on the leg. Not too thin either. A zip back pocket is nice but not mandatory since it’s kind of hard to find on shorts (at least for me).

I love those shorts! I look for built-in undies and a pocket for my key. I found a pair of UnderArmor ones at TJMaxx for $12 with a pocket in the middle of the back and I love them.

the Groovy Run Shorts are my favorite – i also really like the tracker shorts but the groovy run win #1 in my heart.

Cute shorts! I never understood that weird from pocket in Nike Tempo shorts either!

No chafing is my #1 rule. How cute are these shorts! I went online to look into making a purchase only to find out they are sold out. Bummer!

I LOVE these shorts! I ran my last marathon in a pair that I had bought the day before. So comfy!

I hope somebody can help me. How does the fit compare to Nike? I wear a small in Nike. A friend is buying me a pair and sending them to me and my measurements are am smack dab in the middle of a Small and Medium. As I usually am in workout clothes. Very frustrating and every brand fits a little different. Thanks!

      Hey Trina,

Lululemon sizes aren’t at all like Nike. The don’t run small, medium, large etc. They are in sizes 2,4,6,8 etc. If it helps at all I wear a size small nike tempo and a 4 in the Lululemon Run Groovy shorts.
