Rewarded
Based off your comments It sounds like we’re all struggling a bit with our workouts in this heat. Which leads me to tonight’s discussion: Do you reward yourself for reaching your fitness related goals? Or occasionally bribe yourself to do your daily workout?
During the cold months I sometimes reward myself with a post run trip to Starbucks.

After a 1/2 marathon I often reward (or console) myself with a cupcake.

As I was finishing up today’s run, I heard people screaming from a double decker tour bus. Turns out the bus was promoting Vera Bradley’s new color release by handing out products. A woman came over and handed me two coin purses.

It was as if the city itself was rewarding me for sweating my booty off in the 100 degree heat.
Rewards feel good. Perhaps my next reward won’t center around food.

Nice vera bradleys! I have the ID case in the color on the left – it’s the one I take with me when I run!
I rewarded myself on the way back from a run up to 112th st (14.6 mi total!) with a starbucks passion shaken iced tea. yum!!
I love the purse idea
And the idea of non-food rewards
Cute purses! I never reward myself–but maybe it’d motivate me more.
I do reward myself! I usually give myself an extra day of rest during this heat. Or sometimes I get a Green Tea from starbucks!
aw that is a really cute, fun reward!
I save my favorite magazines for the elliptical so I have something to look forward to while doing cardio.
nice reward…a good reward also–beauty products!
Wow! Free?! Those are great! I want one. That was definitely the perfect award for suffering the heat.
I don’t do much rewarding, to be honest. Maybe I should? I would probably have a beer and chocolate after I ran a marathon (as my post race reward!).
Wow–I am loving the Vera Bradley coin purses!! And I had Crumbs for the first time this wknd and it was the best cupcakes I’ve ever had.
I’m a believe in rewarding myself, sometimes I will get a dessert drink at Starbucks or buy 5 songs from iTunes to keep myself going.
Only in New York! I’m lucky if I find a rusted over penny on my runs. Trade you a penny?
Sarah that’s hilarious!!
Tiffany – I love the idea of rewarding with songs!
Gina and everyone else: Don’t worry one of these will be included in my blogoversary giveaway next month.
Wow, I wish people would try to give me vera at the end of runs! But, I’m pretty sure that no one is promoting anything in the podunk town where i live.
Free Vera Bradley? That’s definitely an awesome reward!
I most definitely reward myself.
Most of the time I exercise to balance out my sweet tooth…moderation is key…
but I just have to have a sweet after a meal.
I’m SOOO jealous of your vera bradley luck!! I love love LOVE VB stuff. And those are adorable little purses
oh rewards are definitely necessary!
I have an aversion to running in the heat. I truly don’t think I am built for it so I have been running at the gym for the time being. When it cools down just a little I will resume the outside running for sure because I definitely prefer it!
I reward with clothes and coffee. Probably too much.
I reward myself with coffee post-workout. When it’s too hot I just have them ice it….bliss!
The cupcake looks awesome, that reminds me to try a vegan bakery in this area that’s supposed to be amazing.
Anyway, I reward myself but not enough. I need to come up with weekly fitness plans and reward myself at the end of the week.
I never knew the Big Apple could be so sweet! What a nice surprise for all your hard work on that run. I do believe in a reward system for the health goals I set but funny thing is I usually just do rewards for major goals. I think I should seriously consider some of the ideas listed here on the comments. I think I am missing out
Lucky day! Reward are fantastic. I don’t have a staple, but you have me thinking I should. Starbucks would definitely be it!
Oh my goodness- LUCKY girl!!! Must be your day
I love vera bradley stuff & those patterns are adorable- I love the one that is in the back- kind of looks like a flowery pattern..?
Of all the free crap I’ve gotten on the streets of NYC, I’ve never gotten a Vera purse. That’s awesome!
I try to reward myself after workouts. The coin purses seem like an awesome reward!!
I’m having an amazing grass giveaway on my blog here: http://roseyrebecca.com/2010/07/07/amazing-grass-giveaway/
I LOVE those coin purses!
I do reward myself. Sometimes a Green Monster is all it takes. Sometimes, I dream about a beer at the end of a run. I’m also a super busy person in general, so after a long race, the thought of just SITTING is reward enough. Even if its in an ice bath
My reward for the 10 miler I am running this Sunday is going to be a big ol’ stack of pancakes!! Can’t wait!
I definitely reward myself regularly with some froyo and blueberries after a long workout. It’s recovery food right?
I am all about rewarding myself for tough workouts
New running gear (yay sports bras!) and Starbucks excursions are my top choices.
Score on the purses….that would motivate me for sure!!
I love going to Bikram and then going and getting a deluxe spa mani/pedi. Heaven!
OK, that cupcake looks too yummy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My reward, muscles, fit at 52 AND my treat cookies on the weekend!
After all these years, workouts are just part of life & my day for me….
Those coin purses are too cool!
YEAH!! I l ove this post!
I reward myself with every goal I make as I am more drawn to my reward that anything else. I love treating myself to starbucks if I get certain stuff done!
I go for the big guns when it is a major goal! Love it!
xxoo
I reward myself with starbucks, kombucha, or basically anything at whole foods that way out of my budget but looks GOOD! haha.
…and a beautiful cupcake it is!
I reward myself way too much! Tonight was a Bud Light — oops
I totally have been rewarding myself recently! Yesterday it was so muggy and hot out afterwards I went to Coldstone to “celebrate”
