Self Workout in the Park

2010 May 8

First off, I’d like to thank Self Magazine for a great day in the park. Running and biking in the park are boring in comparison to today’s events.

The day started with rain and turned into a beautiful day. When I got to the park I met up with Julie, Missy, Mari and Mo. I think Missy and Mari were star struck by Sarina Jain the founder of Masala Bhangra (she’s holding the mic). We all know I can’t dance, so I skipped the class and checked out the sponsor booths.

At the preview event I was told that the energy in the park would be amazing and it was. I really don’t think I’ve been around a friendlier group of NY’ers before. It was super crowded, but everyone was so polite… very un-NY.

There  were so many cool workouts to try out. My favorite two were Urban Rebounding and Yogalosophy (with Mandy Ingber).

If you didn’t know already, Mandy is a celebrity Yoga trainer whose client list includes Jennifer Aniston. How amazing cool is this visionmat? It’s a road map of where you’ve been and where you’re going. You can send in your vision board and have it printed on a yoga mat.

I’m pretty sure I need one of these.

It’s no wonder that Mandy has such a successful career as an instructor, she was amazing, thoughtful and inspirational. She even walked through the line of 50 or more women to introduce herself and ask if they had any injuries. She treated it like a real class. That alone was impressive. I’ve been to regular classes where the instructor doesn’t make the effort.

I want to thank Self Magazine for inviting me to the event and being so kind.

If you missed this weekends event don’t forget that there’s a free Flywheel class for FCITC readers next weekend where more fun will be had.

SO jealous that you got to attend… I may need to make a special trip down to NYC for it next year (since it will only be a few hours away then). I just got Mandy Ingber’s Yogalosophy DVD on recommendation by my friend (who is one of Mandy’s students in LA) and really like it so far!

Only in NYC can you do things like that! So jealous. And it was a gorgeous day – it was cold, windy and rainy here in Michigan.
