Eye of the Tiger
2010 February 21
I just couldn’t think of an original title, so I went with an obvious one.
As you guys know, yesterday I went to Tiger Schulmann with the hopes of letting out some aggression.
My friends and I signed up for two weeks of classes for $16. I really had high hopes for this place, despite the fact that my Husband calls Tiger Schulmann the Bally’s of kickboxing.
I however remained optimistic…until I arrived at Tiger Schulmann.
I’m gonna cut to the chase and give you the details on why I will not go back and why I recommend you never go.
- The smell is so horrible that I seriously got nauseous waiting for my class to start. This is coming from a girl who has worked in gyms for 10 years.
- I’ve never worked out in a dirtier space in my life. I felt like I needed to bathe in purell after leaving.
- Not only is it nasty, but you have to workout barefoot. At one point I was face down on the floor. GROSS!
- I could feel the sweat from the previous class under my feet.
- It was too easy to be a workout.
- Sales Pitch. Enough said.
I prefer throwing punches at home in the comfort of my uggs. At least that way I’m less likely to catch a disease.

Ugh I am just disgusted thinking about that! Wow I will not be going. I would never even want to chance it. Thanks for reviewing it!
UGH that sounds horrible! remember when I was jealous because I wanted to go??? hmmm not so much lol
That sounds pretty terrible. Why would you have to box barefoot? I don’t get it.
Ewe… that’s nasty. Sorry it wasn’t what you were dreaming of, bummer.
Sorry you had such a bad experience, it sounds awful!! I don’t see why they would make you workout barefoot, at my boxing gym we all wear boxing boots or trainers hah and the workouts are a really good intensity. Sounds like the place you went to shouldn’t be open!! Hope you manage to find a better gym if you’re still interested in trying boxing.
I think I can smell how gross it was……funny and REAL post-thanks! Cute pic too!
Ugh! The smell I might have been able to deal with, but walking around without my shoes…not sure I could have done it. Sorry it wasn’t what you hoped for. At least now you know and are able to get the word out to others who might be interested in going there! You took one for the team and we thank you for that!
Yuck! The smell alone would have driven me out of that place! I’m glad you survived!
love the boxing ggloves pic!

What a disappointment! Sounds disgusting. I always wanted to get into boxing. Great picture with the gloves : )

That’s such a bummer!! It sounded like a good idea. They need to clean that place up it sounds. Odor removal. You look like a total bad ass so that counts!
I have ALWAYS wanted boxing gloves. It’s a little goal of mine..if I can commit to working out, I will sign myself up for classes at an actual boxing ring and get in there. It looks like SO much fun and SUCH a great workout.
Oh no! At least the experience got you a funny post…and some kick butt gloves! Love those!!
I wish I had gotten those gloves at the class, but they belong to my husband. They are pretty great though!
Yuck, sorry to hear that :/ The thought of working out in bare feet in a public place is enough to not even get me to walk through the front door! Thankfully you didn’t spend *that* much money for the 2 weeks. Still a bummer, though!
thank you for the honest review! have always wondered about those places….can’t say i’m surprised!
