On Schedule
For a race that I’m not suppose to be racing, this race is starting to feel like a RACE!
I’m in complete pre-race mode over here. I tapered this week. I gave up wine for the week. I’ve even been getting ample amounts of sleep.

All the above is now causing some pre-race jitters. I’m not saying they are of marathon proportions, just enough to be noticed.
Somewhere along the way I began treating this run like a race. However, its just a long run. I have a spring race that I’ll be “racing” (note: racing is a loose term) exactly 3 months from tomorrow.
Anyhow, I think this race day schedule may be why this long run is feeling like a race.

Or maybe its because I haven’t ran a race since September?
For you runners out there, Do you ever run a race “just to run” or do you always “race”?

When my hubs and i used to run 5+ “races” per month, at least 1 a week, and sometimes both Sat AND Sunday…we wouldnt view them as races, but just runs. We did the best we could and sometimes that was great, sometimes it was crap. We had the time and disposable cash to do this (at $30 per person per entry, give or take, for a little 5 or 10k…well, Im more frugal now LOL) but we would just do our best…and not stress. Some days if i was feeling strong, i would really run to race, other days it was about the group energy of race day and being with him
I think I’m just a competitive person by nature. I tend to go all out in everything I do. Though, I haven’t ran many races and I think it would be nice to just run for fun.
I don’t know if I could just race for fun without getting nervous etc, but I haven’t done a lot of races so it’s different.
Good luck with the not-so-race!
I absolutely love your post it notes though
Hi! I just discovered your blog! I’m a fit chick in the city too, I guess you could say. I’m running the NYC half in March. Are you?
Anyways, I usually race races, but that’s because I don’t tend to do a lot, so I like to train for them individually. I’m sure this will change though if I run a marathon and do small races frequently leading up to it. good luck!
Caronae, I’m didn’t get into the NYC 1/2. I am running the More 1/2 in April.
I use races as part of my training…. often though I say I’ll take it easy but its hard not to push yourself. I have done races and just ran with a friend or my mom if I don’t feel like racing or have an injury that prevents me from going all out.
Now I am even more nervous…you know that I am going to pick your brain very soon lol
I “race” against my 5k time when I run a 5k…that’s about it though. Not racing against anyone else. Good luck on your half!! Can’t wait to hear the full report.

adventures in tri-ing
I am not a runner but we are doing a 180 mile bike ride in April and really excited about. We are doing mini rides every weekend… this being my very first one I am doing every ride and all rides just to be ready for my two day 180 mile.
Good luck.. Is this your first time running the Manhattan half?
Its the second time I’ve ran this race. However there are other 1/2′s that run a similar course in Central park. I’m totally impressed with your 180 mile bike ride!
I keep reading about everyone’s “racing” that they have done, or races that are coming up! I feel out of the loop. When I used to run, I never raced, I just did it for fun. Although for the Turkey trot I always pushed myself harder, I wanted that pumpkin pie!
I’m not a runner but I do some fun runs. I’m going to start training for an event…and try to challenge myself a bit more than normal. And by event I mean a distance bike ride or a sprint distance tri. I’m no a runner…yet!
Sticky notes, they are the only way I remember anything. Good luck!
