I’m a Warrior?
Normally when I talk about warriors on this blog, I’m talking about the yoga poses Virabhadrasana I,II, or III. Today that isn’t the case. My friends and I got up the courage to try out being a different type of warrior at Warrior Fitness Boot Camp.
Fear set in as we entered the gym and set our eyes upon the obstacle course. It was also clear that we were the only newbies in class. Everyone else was wearing a “warrior fitness” t-shirt.
Before class started we chatted with a regular class goer to discuss the possibility of puking during our first workout. The woman assured us that she had never witnessed a female get sick during class. Whew!
THE CLASS
Class began with Drill Instructor Ruben yelling and cursing at us. As he let out his first 4 letter word I looked up at him and smiled. I knew right away that it was going to be a fun class and that I wouldn’t leave in tears.
The first round of exercises included running, jumping jacks, push-ups, plyo-metric squats, crunches, bear crawls (which I hated) and more burpees and mountain climbers than I’ve ever done at one time in my life.
After running up 17 flights of stairs followed by more running we were divided up into three groups and worked our way through three stations with 3 different Drill Instructors.

Our last station was the obstacle course with Drill Instructor Alex. That’s when I began to feel a bit like I did in Boogie Box. My friend and I made it through the first obstacle, 1/2 way across the monkey bars and over one wall in a series of 3. After we failed to get over the third wall, Alex sent us running for the stairs.
Shortly after failing to get through the obstacle course, class was over. Ruben and Alex were extremely kind and motivating. At one point an exercise was bothering my back, so Alex gave me an alternate exercise.
I really enjoyed this class and definitely would go back if I could actually remember the class pricing. I hope their rates are more affordable than Soul Cycle.
If you live in the NYC area or are in town looking for a good workout, I totally recommend trying out Warrior Fitness Boot Camp. The first class is only $20.
BTW, no one in our group got sick during the workout.

Sounds aesome/hard/like a good workout. And I love the tag you gave this post!
I love the virabhadrasanas, but this warrior class sounds just as fun in a totally different and challenging way. Being cursed at, interesting haha.
I’ve been wanting to try this! Thanks for the great post!

Love the review, you Warrior Woman, you!
Sounds like a great Boot Camp. I like to do those boot camps with friends too.
Ok I’m officially jealous of NYC’s amazing workout classes. They did a special on the TODAY show about a few of them and I was just watching in aww. We don’t have anything cool like that around here, or maybe I should just look harder? Anyway, thanks for sharing, I’ll be there in spirit! I have some friends who live in NYC and always talk about these classes too…I may just visit for the classes! haha
I’ve got that Pat Benetar song stuck in my head now!! :>
Looks like an AWESOME class!! I bet you left feeling like you gave it all you had even if you couldn’t finish the course. Now you have a challenge for next time!
