I can run, spin, ride, and do plyos until the cows come home, but this girl cannot dance. I mean I can’t even do a grapevine. As far as traditional “aerobic” moves are concerned the only ones you’ll ever see me do in class are a basic step (without the arm movements). My body just doesn’t move like that and to be quite frank I feel ridiculous doing such things.
I took a step class once. To say I took the class is a loose term. I stayed with the class for about 2 minutes and then had to sit my ass down in the back of the classroom and observe. I would have quickly exited the room, but the door was at the front of a packed fitness studio.
Clearly, coordination is not my strong point. My lack of coordination is the catalyst for many laughs in these sort of situations.
Tomorrow night, I have to take a class called Boogie Box Fitness. I’ve been told that the class is a blend of Zumba and kickboxing. This girl does not Zumba.
If you’re bored tomorrow night, live in NYC and are looking for a good laugh, join me for a free class at Pearl Studios. I’ll be the one in the back of the room doing “step touch” the entire hour.
Wish me luck!

It gets easier, trust me. You should have seen me the first time I did YOGA, about 5 years ago. I was a mess. Then, after doing it a few times, I had it down. Same thing with any type of dancing. It’s a different type of coordination, but once you get it, you got it!
I wish I could join you for that class. I’ll come bring your Reese’s fro yo from the other night, and then go with you, haha
You are a hoot! I am the same way…I avoid the majority of group exercise classes because of my lack of coordination! I can do things like Body Pump or yoga or spinning but count me out of anything that requires coordination!
I can not wait to hear about your class! Have fun no matter what!
well that class looks super fun by the video . . . if it makes you feel better, think of me taking a hip hop class in the middle of the day, with only one other person . . . first fitness class in like 6 years. I used to dance, but it was ballet, so you can see how the two do not jive . . . the teacher kept picking on me to “get lower” and “go deeper” and all I wanted to scream out was “I HAVE KNEE PROBLEMS LADY”
I can’t zumba, but I can drop it like its hot.
Your class looks super fun!!
What a cute blog.
Love it!
Anything called “Boogie Box” has GOT to at least be fun!!!
Can’t wait to hear how you do…

Too funny!
I too SUCK at coordination! Seriously, I get Left and Right mixed up. But I find everything just takes practice.
I’m so glad you wrote this because I’m exactly the same. Dancing is out. Head bopping, too. As for aerobics, I spend more time trying to keep up with the direction we’re going than actually doing the complicated moves. I find slow-moving group classes, like yoga, easier to follow. Good to hear I’m not the only one with coordination problems!
HAHA step touch! too cute…have fun at the class, it sounds great!
Ha! I’m with you. Can’t dance for the life of me. Zumba scares me!!
I can’t dance either! I’m always afraid to go to dance type classes like that!
I wish I could have joined you. That would have been hilarious! I could help you find your rhythm
