Intentional Resolve

2009 December 28
by Jess

I hope you had an amazing long weekend with friends and family! Thank you for your comments about my youthfulness! ;) It was a great holiday weekend for us. You’ll be hearing more about what the running fairy Santa brought me along with what the Husband bought me for my birthday (I’m so excited I can hardly stand it!) in the near future.

This is the actual cupcake from yesterday.

Intentions are set and resolutions are being made. Within the next few weeks the gym will be busier than Bloomies on Christmas Eve. The same movie plays every year. Hundreds of people resolve to get fit with the intention of changing their lives by working out and eating healthy. Few succeed and continue their journey until the end.

Change as, we know, is hard.

Be someone that achieves their fitness goals this year.  Below are a few tips to get you started.

10 Tips to help you achieve your fitness goals (at any time of the year):

  1. Create an action plan.
  2. Set specific goals.
  3. Be realistic about what you can accomplish in a specific amount of time.
  4. Take baseline measurements (i.e. max number of push-ups you can do at one time, time to complete a mile or a hip and waist measurement).
  5. Use check points along the way to re-take baseline measurements to check your progress.
  6. Avoid doing the same workout everyday.
  7. On Sunday night plan your workout schedule for the week.
  8. Avoid doing to much too soon to help you remain injury free.
  9. Keep a training log.
  10. Ask for help: Ask a nutritionist or qualified personal trainer for help.

    Beautiful cupcake! :)

““It isn’t where you come from it’s where you’re going that counts”. ~ Ella Fitzgerald” – I love this quote!

I’m actually going to write down some fitness goals in the next few days. At this point, it’s all about mixing things up a bit more and trying out new things…

I love your tips! I think that an action plan is totally necessary. Don’t just go out there all willy nilly…have some purpose!
I am working on my long term action plan for 2010 now, and each week make a mini-plan as well.
That cupcake looks like a great b-day treat!

Oh wow, that cupcake looks AMAMAMAMAZING!!

I like your tips for achieving fitness goals. Personally my goal is to jazz up my exercise routine a bit, as I’m getting slightly sick of it. I plan to incorporate more pilates and yoga, and do different intervals and cross training routines on the elliptical!

As for the steel cut oats, I believe they are just a different part of the oat, which contains more of the bran and germ. They are cut with a steel machine, instead of rolled, and are thought to be less processed than regular oats.

I can only imagine what it’s like to be a trainer at this time of year. For YEARS I pledged to get healthy, exercise regularly, etc. I was never horribly unhealthy, but it took me a long time to become as consistent with exercise and healthy living as I am now. I think the key is just to keep trying, even if you fall off the wagon. Take tips from awesome health and fitness bloggers and continuing to work out on our personal journey’s toward health and wellness. It definitely doesn’t happen over night.

Good luck next week as the insanity hits! I feel for ya girl!

Well if that isn’t the happiest cupcake on the planet!

I like your goal suggestions. Writing my goals down and keeping it where I can see it keeps me on focus.
