Outdoor Winter Running Tips
It seems that lately this fitness blog has been taken hostage by a running blog. To all of you non-runners out there, I promise this will not continue much longer and other fitness activities will once again be written about. Thank you, for staying with me during this running dominant week or two.

I’ve been getting quite a few questions about outdoor winter running, so hopefully these tips will help.
10 Outdoor Winter Running Tips
1. Dress in breathable wicking layers.
2. Base layers should either be lightweight or thermal depending on how cold it is outside.
3. Outer layers should be wind proof and water repellant/resistant
4. Wear tops with a 1/2 zip or full zip when possible.
5. Warm-up inside before heading out (run stairs, perform squats and lunges, jumping jacks or run in place).
6. Wear lip balm (My new favorite is by Mission and co-founded by a professional snowboarder).

7.Wear sunscreen.
8. Start your run running into the wind when possible to avoid getting a chill from the wind (impossible feat in NYC).
9. Tread lightly and run slowly in the snow.
10. When the path/road looks like this try to run on the “snowiest” portion.

I’m actually enjoying it because it’s giving me hope I can run someday.

Heather, you are SO welcome! Have a great winter running season!
Today I drove by a park and it was filled with snow and I thought about you ” how does she do this….”. You amaze me =)
Mari, the only thing that’s amazing is my level of insanity. I can’t stand being stuck inside and I can’t stand running on the dreadmill!
