Thoughts?
2009 December 13
I had so many things I wanted to write about today, but my weekend has been crazy busy. Instead of listening to my thoughts on this commercial, I’d love to hear yours. What do you think of this ad campaign for Reebok Easy Tone?
I hope you guys had a great weekend! I’ll be back tomorrow with my review of Ride the Zone NYC and the RealRyder® bike.

I think the marketing around them is totally overly sexual – but it’s working, the collection is KILLING it….I work in footwear and this collection has done a lot for Reebok.

I think it’s a very sexy commercial and as far as ads go – I’m not surprised to hear the shoe is doing well! My mom has a pair of the sketchers version of these shoes and she said she hasn’t noticed any sort of difference yet (haha)
I believe they probably work, but I wouldn’t buy them – first, I’d wonder how they are messing with the natural way we are supposed to walk and how they might be screwing up my leg muscles, physiology of my feet, etc. I guess the same could be said for any shoes though.
Like anything, these aren’t going to be a quick fix if you need to lose weight. As part of a larger program someone has in place? I believe they probably do help. I’ll just take an old fashioned pair of sneaks and go for a run – THANKS!
Ah. I hate that commercial. It’s too overtly sexual for me for the product it’s advertising. I could get with it if it were for condoms or bras or I don’t know… something sexual. But shoes? Really? Nope.
I wrote about this the other day too! I think these commercials are a little too much for me, but apparently they’re working! I think they’re really sending the wrong message to women, but then again.. sometimes the most controversial ads are the most effective I guess..
Oh my gosh. I haven’t seen that one yet. I’ll tell you what I think of it, it’s absolutely ridiculous, and it’s the reason I won’t allow my children to watch anymore than an hour of tv a day (accept maybe on the weekends) and they will have tivo so they can fast FORWARD through the commercials. Seriously, the problems we have with women and men having low self esteem, and going to great lengths, and unsafe lengths, to fit in and be like what many assume is “normal” is getting worse everyday. It’s because of commercials like these. Are they trying to sell to women?? This commercial makes me NOT want to buy their product!!!! I’m mad.
Your shoes are not going to make your butt look good it’s what you do with your feet and what you put in your body that will.
Not a fan of this- a fit body comes from hard work in the gym and fueling your body with good food!
Another “easy way out” from the looks of it. If people think all they need to do to get fit and be healthy and look like the chick in the ads is to wear those shoes they are going to be disappointed! I’m actually surprised that the ad is shown on tv…it seems really over the top to me!

Wow. That commercial is completely ridiculous. My friend Maureen, who is studying women studies, would explode if she saw this ad.
I don’t like how it is portraying women. I don ‘t like the voice-over is a man. I don’t like anything about it. I feel bad for the women in the ad.
I actually don’t mind the commercial because it gets your attention and that is the whole point.
I think the commercial and product are misleading, the only thing that’s going to make your butt look great is a sensible diet and a lot of hard work, not some $100 pair of shoes.
oh, hollywood. i work in it so i understand where they’re coming from as a marketing standpoint but as a feminist (and a human being) i’m so sick of this stuff.
did you ever get my email about the blogger meet up on jan. 1st? just trying to make the reservation soon so if you could email me and lemme know if you plan on attending that’d be awesome!
First time commenter, here.
Love the blog.
I couldn’t resist commenting on this topic because these commercials are so infuriating to me. I have finally gotten to the point in my life where I exercise because of how it makes me feel and not to change how I look. These commercials imply (to me) that the reason to shape up is to be sexy. They’re demeaning to all of the women out there who push themselves for health reasons and because it feels great to do it.
I would be incredibly upset if one of my little girls saw these commercials, and not just because of the sexiness. The Reebok EasyTone commercials send the wrong message.
