Commando?

2009 November 23

I’m getting a little personal here on FCITC today. We’re talking underwear.

Panty lines are a drag even when your working out. This is an even bigger nightmare when an entire room full of people are staring at your butt while you demonstrate the perfect squat. Therefore, I’m stuck wearing somewhat uncomfortable underwear so that I’m not humiliated in front of all the fashionistas in the room.

Running tights are not forgiving. As much as I hate the way they look, they keep my legs warm. In fact, I have brand new pair that I can’t wait to bust out when the temps drop. Summer on the other hand is easy peasy thanks to running shorts.

Choosing what underwear to wear becomes a dilemma in the winter. The last few years I’ve ran in the dark hours of the morning when no can see my panty lines. This year I will probably be running during daylight hours, but will not compromise comfort during a run.

According to a Gear Test in the NY Times I have more options than I realized, but wasn’t fortunate enough to be their gear tester.;)

Do you have any recommendations? What do you do wear for both your winter runs and while working out???

Hahahaha what a cool topic. I usually just wear old g/strings/thongs that are quiet loose and comfy by don’t leave the VPL (Visible Panty Line).

hahaha I can totally relate. When I wear tighter pants/capris to teach- I rock a thong! Panty lines are NOT ok when people are checking you out for form!

Can’t help you hear. I’ve the girl who sometimes works out in a thong (ok, it’s been a long time since I’ve done that, but it’s happened!). I don’t run so it’s a bit different, but I’ve had good luck with all Fruit of the Loom and Jockey underwear!

Oh geez….I go commando ALOT. Otherwise, it’s a thong. The regular underwear drive me crazy, especially when working out!

Commando. All the time. I used to be a thong girl. But after having a baby, I dont know why, I just feel like I dont want to ever wear underwear. I have no idea if the 2 are related but I just like being free. I cannot believe I am writing this. Underwear not only do you get lines, or creeping up, they can actually chafe you more when working out, IMO.

I’ll be the black sheep here and I don’t give a rats ass (interesting choice for comparison) about my panty line in running tights! I am of course not a fitness instructor though. But I like to believe I run so fast I’m a BLUR – my panty line blends right in! haha! ;)

I go commando with running shorts of course, but do where regular underwear the rest of the time. Well, not in a bathing suit swimming laps… to each their own.

Ahh yes, I’ve been having the exact same conflict lately. I find when I’m at work I wear thongs because I would feel weird to be at work all day comando. However, I can’t stand the thought of running in a thong; I don’t like how they feel without the constant threat of fierce chaffing. So, I go comando on runs… I also secretly wish VPL would somehow come into style ;)

I’m a commando girl. I’ve tried just about everything…thongs, boy shorts, yadda, yadda, yadda. No panty lines for this girl!

  9. November 24, 2009

I used to be a bit prudish about running in tights without undies (check it here), but just this year I’ve freed myself from that convention. It’s just more comfortable–I run faster without a wedgie, don’t you?

Ummmm I thought I was the only one who had these thoughts. I’m eager to hear if anyone has a great answer.

  11. November 24, 2009

I’m so glad you wrote about this. I think about this all the time. I wear thongs whenever I work out. I’ve often thought about going commando, but just haven’t done it. But I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one that contemplates this subject.

HAHAHA this is the best topic lol. I usually wear VS’s Pink line, either the thongs, bikini bottoms, boy shorts, etc. If you open my drawer it looks like a VS display lol

What the what! This is such a funny post…and I love the comments. Who knew so many panty-less peeps were running around. I honestly never thought about it…I just wear my regular bikini underwear I wear every day. Now I might be a little paranoid!! LOL

These comments are fantastic! You girls have totally made my day! Robin – it sounds like pantylines are the least of your worries. LOL!

  18. November 24, 2009

Haha I’ve never thought about this because I just go panty lines and all! I mean, I’m working out–who cares!? There are other aspects of my appearance that I should be worrying about haha.

I can’t believe people go commando!! I can’t imagine!! Oh man this is hilarious.

  19. November 24, 2009

I used to wear anything-but-cotton thongs, but now I wear nothing! This was is more comfortable, more sanitary and produces less laundry!

  20. November 25, 2009

THONGSSS!! Seriously soo comfy! I even play tennis in one. I just the cheapo skily ones frm walmart! Love love love themm!

  21. November 25, 2009

I go for the booty short type underwear…
I find it’s hard to find underwear that is “seamless” that won’t ride up your butt while you are working out…the booty short undies work for me.

  22. November 25, 2009

I just don’t think I’ve ever thought about this before! Thanks for the eye opening post. Who knew??

Eeeks! The mere thought of a thong rubbing against those sensitive areas (AND potentially transferring bacteria from one area to another) while I work out sounds both painful and gross!
When I work out, I’m an underwear gal through and through.
I am however, endlessly trying out (i.e. spending more money!) new seemless ones in the hopes of finding ones that fit well and don’t give me a wedgie. I am usually disappointed though. =(
I’m mildly conscious of the pantylines…but try to remind myself that it’s not really a big deal. BIG SURPRISE everyone – I wear underwear! =p

This post is great! :) I always wear Under Armor Boy shorts panties when I run. They are tight, seamless, and don’t ride up or let your pants or shorts do any riding up either!! I love them! kinda an investment, but so totally worth it!! I could never go commando! I’m just not that free. lol :) Check these out if you want to wear something that looks like nothing! :)
