Confessions of a Personal Trainer

Thank you for the suggestions regarding my princess and the pea problem. I ended up combining several of your suggestions. Just before I went to bed last night, I made a list of everything going on in my head. Once I got in bed I prayed and then counted. These three things helped me sleep like a baby!  Thank you!!!

I have a confession. Be warned as this is shocking. One reason I was excited to workout during vacation is that I DO NOT workout in the gym. There, I said it and I feel so much better. I work in a gym I do not workout in a gym.
I run, I bike, I do yoga and I do mini workouts at home. I’m telling you this because you can workout for free! There are a million and one things that you can do without paying the price tag of a monthly gym membership.

The benefits of working out at home:
  • You can stay in your pj’s
  • Save money
  • Sneak in short bouts of exercise when you don’t have time for a full workout vs. missing a workout.
  • There is no travel time.
  • You can try out trendy workouts with out spending a fortune.

If you’re stuck with what to do for an at home workout, check out one of my kitchen towel workouts.

I wish I could workout more at home but I have 2 main problems:

    1. Very little room, very very little.
    2. Distractions, I get distracted easily.

HAHAHA I am just like you…I work at the gym on Saturdays and I am allowed to go whenever I want to use the equipment but I love to workout at home. This is one of the reasons I loved doing in-home personal training…I knew people liked the convenience of having me come to them.

Thank you so much for the links. I do not workout at a gym either, but mostly because there’s none close enough to me to be practical. I’ve found ways to make working out at home work for me, but still challenge me. And I love it!

I do workout in a gym. But I think it’s important to remember that you don’t need a gym to be in good shape and to get in a good workout. I think a lot of people use not having a gym membership as an excuse for why they don’t work out, but as you point out, there are a lot of really good alternatives!

I train in a gym and I also have some equipment at home. I think I train harder in the gym when I get the perception that people are watching me (even when they really aren’t ;-) ).

But you are right…working out at home is a big time savor and nobody cares what the heck you’re wearing!

I have worked in gyms for over 10 years. And I do workout in the gym. But I also do like to workout outdoors or at home. Being outside is sooo nice!! Much more fun! At home can depend on my mood – sometimes I am good and sometimes I get distracted. But on days I just don’t feel like going out, it’s a great option.

I find sometimes home workouts have less distractions than the gym! Because there is such a wide variety of equipment..cardio and weights to chose from I flit around from one thing to another not getting anything done. When I’m limited to what I have at home I focus and get it done!
Another reason to have a PLAN when I go to the gym!

I blogged about this very same topic about a month ago.

I also have (and still do) work at many gyms, but my own workouts take place at parks, in my apartment or occasionally in the apartment of accommodating friends just for a change of pace.
A few of my friends have roof decks which is also nice when the weather co-operates.

Here is the blog where I list FIFTEEN REASONS I PREFER WORKING OUT AT HOME
