Tuesday Trivia
Its time for Tuesday Trivia!! Woo, Woo!! Try and answer today’s question without cheating googling.
This lovely part of our body, is often in need of a stretch, roll or massage. It is often the source of knee pain for runners. It’s the great iliotibial band!
True or False: The iliotibial band is a muscle?
Check back tonight for the answer along with more information on how to prevent an IT injury.

I’m going to say true!
I love that little gadget you have there! I love to use a foam roller to hit my IT band…it hurts so good!
I’m guessing false… no real reason why, but I think it might be something other than a muscle.
Yay! I know this one! I think…
I’ve had IT band problems for over two years and have had to go to PT several times. My answer is FALSE. The IT band is a tendon.
Where’d you get your roller from? I currently use a foam roller but yours looks like it may be more effective!
Meg, its called the stick and I bought it at a local running store. Its pretty fantastic, although I still use the foam roller.
So after my run tonight I was in the shower, thinking about blogs (yes, I thought of you in the shower!) and I remembered it was Tuesday – and then I thought “Wait, isn’t it Trivia Tuesday!??” And thank goodness, I was right!
I’m going to be a copy cat and say that it’s false as well. My reasoning is that I think there’s only a few muscles surrounding the knee – everything else is pretty much a tendon, ligament, or cartilage.
Erin! Thank you for thinking of me. Generally, I only get those kinds of comments from clients who are sore from their workout the day before. I hope that trivia Tuesday can live up to your expectations.
OK, I won’t cheat this time!
I’m going to say no, the ITB is connective tissue and not actually a muscle.
