Privileged
Something struck me tonight while teaching spin class. As I looked out into the sweaty, red faces of my students it dawned on me how many people I have the opportunity to impact every work day of my life. People choose to spend their lunch time with me in my class. They choose to come in after work to workout with me before heading home for the day. They sneak away from their desks and plan meetings around working out with me.
I feel honored and privileged to enter into peoples lives in this way. Its the heart and soul of why I do what I do. Without being overly dramatic, I want to state that working out is important. It’s obviously a huge part of who I am. The fact that I have the opportunity to impact people to live a healthier life day in and day out is living a privileged life.
Honestly, I don’t always feel this way. There are times when I complain about the challenge of energizing this many people. It can be overwhelming at times. Since the fall rush began, I’ve been running around like a crazy person trying to keep up with all of my clients and classes. I’ve been overly tired and a week behind on everything else. Moments like the one I had tonight remind me that at the end of the day its worth it because I’m helping people grow affection towards something that will enhance their lives.
What makes you feel like your living a privileged life?

You are lucky, for sure. And you get to do what you love for a living. Most people dream of that!
I feel so lucky and privileged to get to be living in Japan and experiencing all of this. I know many people who would love to see what it is really like here, but will never have the opportunity like J and I have been given. So blessed, truly!
Oh I really liked this post, and your point of view. You are right, if you think about it these people are leaving their work, to come to YOURS! That’s very cool. And yes, you are having a huge impact on their lives because you are helping them enjoy exercise, which is hard to do.
I feel like I am living a privileged life when;
a) I watch the news and see all the horrible stories that happen to other people, and never me. I always wish I could do more to help, and I sometimes feel guilty that I have never been in any type of disaster.
b) When friends complain about their awful boyfriends to me (like last night) and I think about how lucky I am to have nothing to complain about with mine.
I always wonder what my spin instructor is thinking during class. I was in spin this morning and was thinking about how awesome it would feel to teach a class! My mindset was very similar to yours. It must feel awesome and empowering. I might just have to get certified to teach spin!
Rebecca, if you’re thinking about it you should do it! Its so much fun!
What a great question, I recently talked and asked about gratitude on my blog. In a nutshell, I have great food, a lovely new home, material possessions, a doting husband and father to our daughter, my sweet lil girl most of all. And of course, looking around and noticing homeless people, people without their limbs, people who don’t have access to decent food, you name it, it’s always around and I thank god that I am blessed. Daily. Multiple times
There but for the grace of God go I. Not trying to get all spiritual on ya but great question
I feel like I’m living a privileged life as a stay at home mom. I use to be a in job that was not at all rewarding. It was emotionally draining and day after day I would come home thinking “Am I really going to spend the rest of my life doing this?” It was not an easy thing to leave the security of a well paying job but I’m so glad I did. I’ve never been happier or more fulfilled than I am now and I am forever grateful I stepped outside my comfort zone.
It’s always nice to know other people appreciate and a recognize the good things they’ve got going in their lives. Your clients are lucky to have you!
My husband makes me feel like the luckiest person every single day, I let him know everyday too.
I can not wait for the day that I can be personal trainer, full time! you are so lucky
