Friday Fitness Flashback
The year was 1992 and I was eagerly searching for ways to get fit. Okay so, at that age I didn’t care so much about my fitness level, I just wanted to be the skinniest girl on the block. I was already running as a way to keep sane, but I also wanted to do more than just run.
It just so happened that the hottest workout video of the year had been released right around…
my mom’s birthday. No, my mom is not a fitness freak like me, but it is what she got from her daughter for her birthday.
Don’t judge, I like to think I was a resourceful kid that knew how to get what I wanted. Plus, I really thought she would enjoy it too.
I remember hearing about how horrible the exercises were for your back, so I stopped doing the video a few months after I gave it to my mom. However, she called me at some point this past summer and told me she had started using this video again. So, maybe it wasn’t the most selfish gift ever (yes, I advised her against using it).

I remember that video lol, my friends and I did it together once.
That’s so funny! My mom used to be obsessed with that song Mambo #5 (I know, silly) so for her birthday one year, I got her a poster of Lou Bega. Haha.
Too funnny. Man, she was busting through those rows, wasn’t she!!! Thanks for sharing, for sure! Always good to get a nice 90′s or even 80′s flashback.
How about some Richard Simmons soon??? Sweatin’ To the Oldies???
YES – I love your old school video posts. I have to say her form looks horrible!
I had that video and used it a lot…
Wow. That brings back memories…
haha, I Remember those videos!! I did not know they were found to be bad for your back. Hey, it’s the thought that counts, right? ONce I gave my mom a leotard from the Limited for her birthday. It was like a tight body suit that snapped near her crotch. I know it sounds weird, but I thought it was so neat! And I thought she would love it (it was like a body suit for really fit people). I was maybe 10 years old, she never wore it
Regarding your questions about the canned kale, it’s actually REALLY good! ESpecially the seasoned varieties. It cooked really well, so it’s soft and there are no texture issues. I would recommend trying it sometime.
Gina, that is HYSTERICAL! Thanks for sharing!
OMG What memories. Cindy from the early 90s. I was in h.s. and probably in about the same camp as you lookin’ for workouts….and I too had some pretty darn cheesy aerobics type VHS tapes
LOL. Good thing I found yoga not to much after that
HAHA thanks for the throw back lol
Wow, that is old school.
OMG I love it, and I had no idea those moves were bad for your back. Makes you wonder what we are doing wrong now that were going to find out is not so great for us. Or maybe I don’t want to know.
I remember how much I loved my mom’s Sweatin’ To The Oldies and Buns Of Steel as a kid. I think I just liked to dance. Although, after many years of dance lessons, I’m still not “good”. I got a Barbie Workout video when I was 4 years old and it was my favorite past time!
