Help Wanted

2009 August 31
by Jess

I adore teaching spin class.  Each week I struggle to come up with 12 new songs to play.  I really don’t like using the same play-list two weeks in a row.  However, last week I played the exact same play-list I used the week before… GASP! Here’s what I played:

Spin Playlist

Can you help a girl out?  What song makes your heart pump and your body move? The two that always get me going without fail are “Its the end of the World as We Know It ” by R.E.M. and “Mr. Brightside” by the Killers.  Sadly, R.E.M. does not go over well in a spin class.  Trust me, I’ve tried.   I bust it out once a year in hopes people love it the way I do but alas, they never do. :(

I’m sooooo cheesy but I really love all the pop stuff – britney spears crap, Jock Jams (on yes, from the 90s!), etc. My husband always tells me I have the WORST taste in workout music, so I may not be the best one to ask…

I think your playlist looks great though! And I loooooove REM – it pumps me up :)

One of my favorite songs to run to Starry Eyed Surprise by Paul Oakenfold. Ray of Light by Madonna is another fav and for a long time it was always the first song on my playlist – cause the sun was coming up like in the video. Can’t Get You Out of My Head by Kylie Minogue! Oh and Where’s Your Head At by and Romeo both by Basement Jaxx. OK I’ve got a ton, I’ll stop now.

I’m so with you! I get bored if I stick to the same music/workout for too long when I teach. There are a lot of great Pink songs, black eyed peas, Nickleback has some good stuff too! I will try to keep thinking of ideas for ya!

Oooo I love making playlists! I always thought that if I were a teacher of classes, this would be the part I would rock at the most :) Some of these are a little “weird” because they’re not mainstream so people might be like huh? But I guarantee they will light a serious fire!

List of Demands – Saul Williams (this makes me want to sprint every single time I run)
    Rebellion (Lies) – Arcade Fire
She’s Hearing Voices, Helicopter, Like Eating Glass – Bloc Party
Won’t Be Long – The Hives
    Hung Up – Madonna
We Run This – Missy Elliot
Queen of Apology – The Sounds (anything by them is good)
    Tessellate – Tokyo Police Club
Hoppipolla – Sigur Ros (more of a cooldown song, so good!)
You Are The One – Shiny Toy Guns
    Maneater – Nelly Furtado
The entire Feed the Animal album by GirlTalk – you can just let it run and spin to the whole thing.

I need to learn how to take better advantage of my iPOD. I just play mine on shuffle and do my workouts to the same set of about 400 songs everyday! OF course, I’m not teaching a class, which makes it very different, but still! I’m getting bored, I need some iPOD giftcards!

I just d/led a few new tunes for my mp3 player, but, I don’t do spin, so I’m not sure if they’re the appropriate tempo…

    Shakira – She Wolf
    Ciara – Love Sex Magic
Miley Cyrus – Party in the USA (I’m a little ashamed of this one….)
    Michael Franti – Say Hey
I find a lot of No Doubt’s perkier music a lot of run for my runs as well — might be one to check. Also Gwen Stefani’s solo stuff.

“When Love Takes Over” by David Guetta/Kelly Rowland is my current obsession song while running. It gets my blood pumping and my legs moving!!
